Teachers often ask us, “If you love being with children so much, why did you decide to leave the classroom?”
It is true that classroom teachers are the heart of a school. It is true that we are both happy when we are sitting on the floor, surrounded by students who are reading and writing. We found that we are even happier when we are sitting on the floor with teachers, surrounded by students who are reading and writing, observing the students and collaborating to imagine how we can nurture those students as readers and writers.

We did not leave the classroom. We enlarged the classroom.
